5 keys to Eating Disorder Recovery
5 keys to Eating Disorder Recovery
Real delight doesn't come from externals, like the recognition and acceptance from others, the over indulgence in pleasures like food or entertainment, or the escape of our troubles and difficulties. (All things that can fuel an eating disorder). Real delight comes from human flourishing, from the betterment of ourselves, and from the improvement and fulfillment of our potential. It's based on the inner work we do, our perseverance through difficulties, and in knowing that we are becoming a little better, a little wiser, and a little more resilient every day. This is where true joy and happiness is found. A joy and happiness that cannot be taken away.
It's the choices we make that make us who we are. Do you choose to be kind, compassionate, strong, resilient? This is where true beauty lies. When you are content within yourself, when you know your values and stand by them, when you strive to do the right thing even when faced with difficulties and challenges, this will radiate from you regardless of anything external. So choose beauty. Invite it into your life. Choose how you want to carry yourself, choose how you want to view the world, choose how you want to treat yourself and others. That's a beauty that will never fade. If you want to be beautiful, make beautiful choices.
There's a powerful magic to self discovery. When you discover who your are, your passions, your gifts, what gives your life meaning, that's when you uncover your reason to heal, to face your fear, and to leave your eating disorder behind. When you have a meaningful 'why' you can indore any 'how'. So search yourself, discover your 'why', uncover your purpose, your hopes, your dreams. Hold them, nurture them, and believe in them. Once you do, nothing will stand in your way.
Bulimia and binge eating disorder can feel chaotic and out of control and the longer you're in it the more lost you can feel. It removes you from the person you're meant to be and the life you're meant to live. Not knowing who you are and how to really function in life will only contribute to more disordered eating patterns. But realize this.. you have the power to decide who you want to be. You have the power to choose how you want to live. When you make these choices and practice them daily you live life by your own design and a life with design is a purposeful one.
